MLB Ballpark Ratings

Read ArticleArticle Source: Sports Illustrated

Essentially, this is a measure of how satisfied fans are with their hometown ballpark experience. The happiest? Cleveland. Progressive Field, home of the Indians, finished first with Milwaukee's Miller Park a close runner-up. The Florida Marlins brought up the rear, which is not surprising considering they play in a football stadium under the oppressively hot South Florida sun.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

This is a bunch of crap. Anybody who knows anything about baseball know that the three best parks are Wrigley, Fenway, and Yankee Stadium. We can dispute who takes first, second, and third...but there is no way Cleavland, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh beat them out.

That was pretty much my take on the ratings as well.

I'm sorry, but this is about baseball, not which park has the better food.

Well both of you can have fun together, I suppose. To pay those multimillion dollar salaries to people like Zito, you need to bring in lots and lots of people who are willing to pay to have a good time, baseball tradition be damned.

And aren't the Yanks building one of these gold-plated entertainment venues as we speak, and planning the demolition of the old park to make room for a parking garage?

Sure, but that doesn't change anything about the current situation.

Thousdans of people don't travel hundreds of miles, spend hundreds of dollars, and put on their "list of things to do before they die" to visit Cleveland stadium or Pittsburgh or San Diego. They do, however, do that for Wrigley and Fenway (and to a lesser extent Yankee Stadium)

But thousands more go if they are going to have a good time. And that includes food and other amenities.

You have to admit that those surveyed got tradition right: 1. Boston Red Sox 2. New York Yankees 3. Chicago Cubs

and... Seattle being #1 in atmosphere. :)

I'd put Wrigley over Yankees' Stadium for tradition, and probably a tie with Fenway.
